We are developing a MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) vibration energy harvester using a rare-earth oxide thin-film electret. An electret is a special material that can store electrical charge for a long time. Our electret combines a high surface potential with excellent heat resistance, making it suitable for automotive applications. The thin-film electret achieves a surface potential of approximately 1,000 V, one of the highest levels in the world. By utilizing this material, we are developing an ultra-compact MEMS vibration energy harvester that converts vibration into electrical power.
Powering the Future with World-Leading Electret Technology
Electrets are unique materials capable of retaining electrical charge for long periods. Jointly developed by Tokyo University of Science and DENSO, our rare-earth oxide electret delivers exceptional heat resistance, durability, and world-leading surface potential of approximately 1,000 V in thin-film form and 7,000 V in bulk form. Leveraging this breakthrough material, Kobe University and DENSO are developing an ultra-compact MEMS vibration energy harvester that converts vibration into electricity. Our goal is to enable the next generation of battery-free wireless sensor systems, eliminating battery replacement and reducing maintenance costs.
