Supporting the future of water and energy through our technology.
Headquartered in Nagasaki, where it also operates a manufacturing plant, Kyowa Kiden Kogyo Co., Ltd. conducts business in the fields of water treatment equipment and electrical energy. The company employs approximately 700 people across the group and generates annual sales exceeding 10 billion yen.
In recent years, it has also focused on developing new water treatment systems for private-sector industrial plants; its proprietary products include the "PRO" osmotic power generation system, the "G-ace" and "G-ace+" oily wastewater treatment systems, sub-micron fiber treatment equipment, and the "F-CAP" high-performance fiber filtration system.
Development of Pressure Retarded Osmosis Power Generation System began about 15 years ago, and in fiscal years 2010~2013, practical demonstration tests were conducted under the Cabinet Office's Advanced Research and Development Support Program [FIRST Program]'s Megaton water project, achieving the world's highest power generation output. Currently, the company is selling this system to large-scale overseas seawater desalination facilities. Additionally, to complete the world's first osmotic power generation technology using seawater, development continues as a new energy technology theme for the Nagasaki Prefecture Marine and Environmental Industry Hub Special Zone (Cabinet Office).
We developed the "F-CAP" high-performance fiber filtration system using our proprietary technology, securing both international patent applications and domestic patent registration. This product removes 100% of 5-micron particles without the use of coagulants and can be customized to meet specific customer performance requirements. Supported by development grants—including the FY2015 "Nagasaki-style New Industry Creation Fund" and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's "Program to Support the Advancement of Strategic Core Technologies"—it has become our flagship product, with a growing track record of sales and proposals to users nationwide.
The "G-ace" oily wastewater treatment system and the "G-ace+" advanced treatment system series enable private factories to reduce the industrial waste disposal costs associated with treating oily wastewater; these products have a strong sales track record in China.
Recognizing the potential to expand this business into Vietnam—where our company is based—we participated in a project promoted by Japan's Ministry of the Environment (the "FY2017–2018 Initiative to Promote Business Expansion for Water Environment Improvement in Asia"), conducting market research and demonstration tests. We intend to roll out these operations in Vietnam, leveraging our proprietary technology.
Since around 2019, as a new energy-saving water treatment technology, development of a new MBR device has begun, and with support from the Nagasaki-type New Industry Creation Fund Project in fiscal year 2021, demonstration tests have been conducted at university cafeteria wastewater treatment facilities. This new MBR device aims to be an energy-saving device by compacting the device using a membrane with excellent permeability performance, thereby reducing aeration. Our company plans to make this MBR technology the main product for wastewater treatment for private factories in the future.
