Turning Wind into Electricity!
JOGMEC has been conducting seabed geotechnical surveys and wind, meteorological, and oceanographic surveys for offshore wind power development since FY2023 under the “Japanese Centralized Model” to streamline and accelerate project formation.
Harnessing the power of the wind, offshore wind power is a key technology for realizing a sustainable society.
At this exhibition, we will introduce an overview of the surveys conducted under the Japanese Centralized Model, along with a scale model of an offshore wind power installation.
This model provides an easy-to-understand look at how offshore wind power works, featuring offshore wind turbines, subsea cables, and the process of generating electricity from wind at sea and transmitting it to shore.

【Abstract】To promote offshore wind power development in Japan, JOGMEC conducts site surveys under the Japanese Centralized Scheme. Through these surveys, baseline data on wind conditions, metocean conditions, and seabed geotechnical conditions are collected and provided to prospective developers, helping reduce development risks and survey costs while ensuring fair competition in public tenders and facilitating project formation. JOGMEC utilizes technologies and expertise developed through oil, natural gas, and seabed mineral resource exploration, including geophysical surveys, geotechnical investigations, and borehole drilling. In recent years, the program has expanded from bottom-fixed to floating offshore wind projects, with surveys being carried out in several areas, including western Hokkaido, Sakata (Yamagata), Akita, and Asahi (Chiba). The presentation outlines the Japanese Centralized Scheme, summarizes the current status of JOGMEC's site survey program, and discusses future initiatives.
