Evolving to match waste heat! Autonomous learning AI binary power generation unit
We aimed to create a 1 kW-class binary power generation unit that uses HFO-based alternative refrigerants to reduce global warming. A heat exchanger was developed to capture the latent heat from steam, thereby enabling sustainable power generation from the waste heat of geothermal steam. This unit features machine learning-driven autonomous control of the pump and cooling fan to maximize the net output.
This binary power generation unit has four main features. First, it is designed for equipment with an output of 10 kW or less, allowing operation without the need for an electrical chief engineer. Second, it uses a low-GWP refrigerant as the working fluid of the heat pump. Third, a steam heat exchanger is used as the evaporator to allow maintenance-free power generation. Fourth, it includes an energy management system with autonomous learning AI that learns the best operating conditions for the unit.
