A Society Aimed at Contributing to the Creation of Film Products with New Values

Regarding the scratch hardness of film surfaces, the “pencil test” (JIS K 5600 5-4)
has been used until now; however, in 2022, our Society published the “Plastic- Determination of Scratch Hardness of Specialty Films (JIS K 7317),” which is faster, more efficient, and offers higher reproducibility than the conventional method. The Society for Specialty Film was founded in 2000 with the aim of promoting manufacturing through cross-industry collaboration. Currently, the group consists of 167 companies, including not only materials manufacturers (plastic films, metals, paper, inks, release agents, adhesives, etc.) but also converting manufacturers (coating, printing, vapor deposition, stretching, laminating, cutting, and die-cutting, etc.), equipment manufacturers, research firms, trading companies, and academic institutions. In 2025, the group celebrated its 25th anniversary.
