Urushi lacquer has been used in Japan more than 9000 years and it has been the center of our culture. What is the essence of it that has survived so many years? Though the deman of it is drastically declined in recent years with the change of lifestyle, there should be something that we should not overlook. We would like to share the excellence of urushi that has not been discovered so far, so that we can live with it even now. At the same time, we would like to tell the present situation of Wajima, famous product place of urushi lacquerware. How it is going after the disasterous earthquake in Jan 2024.

On the back surface of glass sheet, urushi lacquer is applied along with silver foil. During the process of drying urushi pulls the foil, and makes a unexpected pattern of its own. Once dried, it never moves. We call it Natural Pattern and categolized into some groups, after putting them into data. No twe patterns are the same, but we can make the similar one according to the data. It is nice for the interior designing--wall and window decoration, partition, furniture, fixtures, accesories and so on. When you install it with light, urushi reflects it and give us unique reflection.

This is what we call Natural Pattern, and is categolized into some groups to be used for interior designing. The lacquered urushi sheet can be also cut by laser machine into the desired shapes and then folded or twisted with heat. Acrylic sheets can be layered with urushi in between to make magical cube, which we call Acry-U-lil. Urushi reacts to the light and reflect to make a unique atmosphere.
