From Adhesion to Dismantling and Recycling【Abstract】To achieve carbon neutrality and a circular economy, there is a need to shift toward adhesive and joining technologies that take into account the entire lifecycle—from product design to reuse and recycling. While adhesive technologies support weight reduction and the joining of dissimilar materials, they also present the challenge of making disassembly, sorting, and recycling difficult. In this presentation, we will introduce the activities of the “Adhesive and Joining Technology Consortium (T-CAB),” a collaborative initiative led by the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) involving industry, academia, and government. We will also provide an overview of cutting-edge technologies that support circular manufacturing, including multi-material joining, surface and interface analysis, and material design utilizing quantum and AI technologies.
